Travel Light

A quick reflection from the road

TRAVEL LIGHT

I went out to find a friend, I found none. I went out to be a friend I found many friend.

TRAVEL LIGHT

I used to pack far too much whenever I travelled. Over the years, I’ve learned that the lighter I go, the freer I feel. For short trips — even up to two weeks — I bring only the essentials: a small set of clothes and my toiletries.
On my last visit to see Mum, I didn’t check in any baggage at all. I wore one pair of joggers, brought my thongs, and packed a simple pair of sandals for church. My denim jacket stayed on because aeroplanes always get cold.
The rest was just the basics: phone charger, laptop, a couple of pens, my passport, and a little money for food along the way. Nothing more. Make sure my phone is charged so my pickup person can contact me.
And because I was travelling alone, I tried something different — I took the train to Sydney Airport and back home again. It turned out to be cheaper than an airport taxi and, surprisingly, a little adventurous. There’s something freeing about hopping on a train with just your small bag, watching the city pass by, and knowing you’re carrying only what you truly need.
Travelling light isn’t just practical — it makes the journey calmer, easier, and a little more peaceful. Sometimes, less really is enough.
