Travelling with little ones is its own kind of adventure — joyful, noisy, unpredictable, and full of memories you don’t realise you’re making until years later. In my experience with road trips with my wriggly boys, a few simple things made all the difference.
🍎 Pack More Snacks Than You Think
Food and drinks were our peacekeepers. Not just a few — plenty. Kids seem to get hungry the moment the engine starts, and having snacks ready kept everyone calm and content.
🎲 Keep Their Hands Busy
We always brought small table games, toys, colouring things, and music they loved. Some parents used iPads, which worked well for them, but we wanted the boys to notice the world outside the window — the trees, the sky, the long stretches of road that felt like adventure.

🧺 A Portable Lap Table
A lightweight lap table was one of the best things we ever brought. It gave them a surface for colouring, playing, or eating without everything falling onto the car floor.
👀 Play Classic Road‑Trip Games
“I Spy” became our family favourite. We also sang songs together — sometimes loudly, sometimes off‑key, always happily. These little moments kept them engaged and connected.
🌿 Let Nature Be Part of the Journey
Whenever possible, we encouraged them to look outside — trees, mountains, animals, clouds. Even short stops at lookouts or parks helped them stretch, breathe, and enjoy the world around them.
